Journey to Excellence as a Plastic Surgeon Thursday, September 26 Thu, Sep 26 5:00-6:00 p.m. PDT
The ASPS Diversity and Inclusion Committee is delighted to team-up with the Garnes Society to provide this noteworthy session. The session's primary speakers will address key topics in diversity, equity and inclusion.
Dr. Kerri Woodberry will speak on her career and journey to becoming the first female African American to serve as chief of a division of academic plastic surgery in the United States. Dr. Woodberry is the Chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at West Virginia University. She will be followed by Dr. Steven Williams, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Williams is the first African American to serve in this role. One of the cornerstones of his plans as ASPS president is to expand the organization’s reach to ensure that the needs of both physicians and patients from diverse backgrounds are met and that all voices are heard.
At the end of this activity participants will be able to:
- Recognize the value of mentorship in career development.
- Describe the consequences of the absence of minorities in plastic surgery.
