Secondary reconstruction of a burned hand involves complex considerations to restore function, appearance, and quality of life. Panelists will share and discuss insights on key considerations:
- Assessment of burn severity and scar formation
- Functional restoration including joint mobility and tendon function
- Aesthetic considerations
Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:
- Understand key factors in the assessment of depth, extent, and location of the original burn injury.
- Understand key factors in scar analysis including scar contracture, hypertrophic scarring and hyperpigmentation.
- Recognize factors that could lead to restricted movement.
- Identify considerations for the choice of technique such as skin grafts, local or free flaps.
